Sony Ericsson HBH-608

Best Blue-tooth headset I’ve ever used.  Comfortable, Range and sound are good, battery lasts quite a while. My favorite part about the HBH-608 is that the ear piece doesn’t have to go in your ear. It kinda sits outside your ear. You can find them on Amazon for under $20. A very good deal if you ask me. I highly recommend these over the Plantronics or Motorola’s.

Goodbye VMWare, Hello Virtual Box

Jan 01, 2010 @ 04:03 am by HackingManual

I’ve been a long user and supporter of VMWare , however there are just too many problems and glitches. I delt with them because it was a good program, but then I discovered Virtual box.

Things I didn’t like about VMWare Server.

The process to install, and get a serial for the program was lengthy.
The download was huge and took forever.
Version 1.0 had issues with vista and would cause it to crash. VMWare Server Crashes Vista
Version 2.0 was weird and not user friendly.

With virtual box I didn’t have any of those problems.
The download was quick and easy, no vista issues and very user friendly. Forgot to mention Virtual Box is FreeWare!

Cheap Geek Gear

Jan 01, 2010 @ 03:39 am by HackingManual

A list of the places I shop to get the best deals on my geek gear.

MonoPrice.Com – The best place for cables. Cat5, HDMI, VGA.

RecoupIT.com – Really good for Used desktops, LCD monitors and TV’s. I bought a refurbished TV from here saving about $300 and It came in perfectly brand new condition.  I’ve also made recommendations for others to by desktops from here, cheapest I’ve found.

TigerDirect.com – While the prices may be slightly higher than NewEgg, they do offer local shops in some areas which is nice, and the pricing is usually competitive. I haven’t liked them since they turned all of there stores into CompUSA, They’ve changed policies and are becoming more and more like a Best Buy every day. I still shop there.

NewEgg.com – Free shipping on a ton of products, and usually very competitive prices. Great customer service and a ton of reviews.

Cheap Server/Network Backup

Jan 01, 2010 @ 03:09 am by HackingManual

There are a lot of great programs out there for automatically backing up your sever. I was looking for the following features in a server backup program.

-Image Backups, So I could restore the entire Server quickly.
-Automatic, and reliable
-Could backup multiple PC’s and not just the computer it was installed on.
-Could backup my entire network
-Easy to use

In the end I found Macrium Reflect which had all these features for around $40. Other software I looked at was complicated, and had a price tag of over $1000. Macrium Reflect was clearly the winner and I’ve been using it for over a year now.

Check out the features here.

Iphone Apps Close When You Open Them

Jan 01, 2010 @ 02:35 am by HackingManual

Are your Iphone or Ipod touch applications closing when you try and open them? Well here is how to fix that.

The really easy way to fix this is to go to the app store and download an update or a free application and install it. After the program installs all of your programs should work normally.
