How To Avoid Email Registration

Mar 22, 2011 @ 07:26 pm by HackingManual

Many websites require registration and a valid email address in order to read content or download items.  This results in excess email, spam, and just being annoyed because you have to register and create a username and password.

The good news is you can avoid all of that and access many websites without registering or giving your email address.

Using Community/Shared user names and passwords
Bugmenot.com and bypass.rd.to are websites that allow you to search for community or shared usernames/passwords to access these registration only websites. You will be surprised at all the websites this will let you access.

Using a disposable email address provider.
If this is a website you would like to register for but want to avoid proving your email address you can use a disposable provider such as Mailinator.com When asked for your email address just type in anything@mailinator.com  you can replace anything with well anything it could be example@mailinator.com then when they send you an email for activation you can check the email at mailinator.com  This is not password protected anyone can check this inbox but if it’s disposable it probably means you don’t care anyways.

Create your own disposable email account
Stop giving out your main email address. Create a separate email address specifically for registration and spam at gmail or yahoo.  This provides you the protection of you being the only person who can access this email while still protecting your main email account from spam.

How To Disable Facebook Theater

Mar 20, 2011 @ 03:34 pm by HackingManual

When viewing pictures on facebook you are now forced to use facebook theater to view the images. Luckily there are a few easy ways to disable the facebook theater.

F5 – When facebook theater comes up hit F5 and the browser will refresh and you will be taken back to normal picture view mode.

Facebook/Chrome Add-On – There is an Add-On available for Firefox and chrome called Facebook Lightbox Killer which disables by default the Facebook theater.

I prefer to F5 method but it you want it permanently disabled try the Firefox/Chrome Add-On.

Turn your PDF’s into Audio Books

Mar 20, 2011 @ 12:15 pm by HackingManual

Adobe reader will read your PDF’s outloud for you so you don’t have to.  This makes it simple to listen to your long PDF’s instead of reading them. If you have an audio recorder you can even record these PDF’s to an MP3 file to listen to later on your iPod.  adobe reader icon 150x150 Turn your PDFs into Audio Books

Open your PDF with adobe reader
Click View
Then Read outloud and activate read outloud
Click View again, Read outloud, and then read to the end of the document.
Now if you want to skip the introduction or a couple pages just click on the paragraph you want to skip to and it will skip and start reading from that paragraph or page.

The computer voice is a little rough around the edges but it’s still a very neat feauture and I hope they improve upon this and maybe even add a feature to convert the pdf into an audio book built in. So you could just convert it and transfer it to your iPod.

Mar 18, 2011 @ 01:35 pm by HackingManual

This article describes how to by pass the activation screen on the Android HTC DROID Incredible and this will probably work for other Verizon android phones as well.

When you see the screen that tells you to call to activate just hit call to activate end call, back activate again, end call and repeat 4 times and then it will bypass activation and you can use your android phone with Wi-Fi to play games and even make VOIP calls and send text messages with apps over Wi-Fi.

Export, View and Backup Iphone SMS

Mar 18, 2011 @ 01:12 pm by HackingManual

Previously I used iBackupBot to export, view and backup my iPhone SMS text messages but I found that it didn’t export my text messages properly. The dates were out of order and nothing was organized by conversation thread.

I have found a much better alternative that works very well. Tansee iPhone Transfer SMS.  It exports to either a text file organized by contact name or number if no name is stored, or to a ant database which can be opened by the software. I prefer the text file export because it opens much faster and you can use Ctrl + F to search for items.

It does take a few minutes to load all of your messages especially if you have a good amount. The software costs $19.95 but compared to the alternatives I believe it is completely worth every penny. There is a free trial which allows you to download a limited number of messages per contact so that you can see how it works and if you like it.

Avast Antivirus

Mar 18, 2011 @ 01:07 pm by HackingManual

After being failed by MSE, and Avira I decided to try Avast Free Antivirus and I think I have finally found the perfect solution. I like the fact that it comes pre-configured out of the box. I didn’t have to go through any settings. It auto-updates daily and even lets you know via audible alert that it has been updated. I especially like the fact that it automatically blocks viruses and infected pages in real time. This is where the other Antivirus suites had failed me.

Very high protection in real time which I think is the most important
Doesn’t get in my way or annoy me asking me questions constantly
High results from AV Comparatives and the #2 download on download.com
Option to perform Boot time Scan which scans your computer before the viruses can load and hide
Ability to set exclusion paths. When you have programs/files you want to exlcude from being detected

How to Backup Sharepoint Documents

Mar 17, 2011 @ 11:50 pm by HackingManual

If you need to backup Microsoft Sharepoint Documents this is the easy way to do it. This tutorial is also useful for being able to view sharepoint documents in windows explorer to drag and drop files.

Click My Computer
Tools–Map a Drive

This first option may not work but you should try it first

Select a Drive Letter you want to use
Under the folder location enter your sharepoint address such as

http://sharepointserver.com

Then Click Connect using a different username
Enter the username/password you use to connect to sharepoint
domain\user
password
Remember Password

If successful you’re good to go if not this next step will work for you

While still in the map network drive screen at the very bottom you’ll see a link about connecting to a website. This creates a network location.

It should prompt you for the same information address, username/password
It then saves it as a network location

When your finished you should be able to view all your document libraries and be able to back them up. If you were able to successfuly map this as a network drive letter then you will be able to automatically back up these documents with a backup software such as Macrium Reflect or something similar.

If you were only able to add it as a network location then you will only be able to manually back up these files. However there might be a work around for this I’m sure you’ll be able to find.
