This tutorial will show you how to configure Baracuda RBL on Microsoft Exchange Server.

Baracuda Networks provides a free RBL (Real Time Spam Block list) which blocks spammers email servers by IP address. This is a much more effective way of blocking spam then by blocking domains because you block the IP address of the SPAM email servers.

Request access to use Baracuda’s RBL at http://www.barracudacentral.org/rbl

Registration is quick and free. Then Tell them your DNS server that the email server uses.

Then go to your exchange server command shell and paste in the following command.

Add-IPBlockListProvider -Name b.barracudacentral.org -LookupDomain b.barracudacentral.org -AnyMatch $True -Enabled $True

Make sure it is all one line, by using note pad and undoing word wrap otherwise an error will display.

Reviews have showed this will block about 78% of your spam, and you can use it with other SPAM RBL’s.

Enjoy your new spam free email environment

http://MxToolbox.com

If your email server is black listed you can go to the RBL that is blacklisting you and request that your server be removed, however if you are practicing spamming activities it won’t be long before your server is blacklisted again.

Installation- was pretty easy, only issue I had was where to put the license key. Avira support was quick and helpful.

Support- Avira’s email support is usually pretty helpful and quick to reply. They usually solve my problem the first time they reply.

Anti Spam- This feature needs improvement. It lets spam through and blocks false positives. It’s based on word lists which need tweaking. It is somewhat helpful but using a Real Time Blacklist would work better. They should team up with someone like Spam Haus to provide RBL.

Email Viruses- This is probably the main reason for installing avira exchange. It works pretty well.
