I’ve been a long user and supporter of VMWare , however there are just too many problems and glitches. I delt with them because it was a good program, but then I discovered Virtual box.

Things I didn’t like about VMWare Server.

The process to install, and get a serial for the program was lengthy.
The download was huge and took forever.
Version 1.0 had issues with vista and would cause it to crash. VMWare Server Crashes Vista
Version 2.0 was weird and not user friendly.

With virtual box I didn’t have any of those problems.
The download was quick and easy, no vista issues and very user friendly. Forgot to mention Virtual Box is FreeWare!

PCWorld Reports that AV-Test.Org has put Microsoft’s New Anti Virus to the test.

Microsoft Security Essentials Detected 98.44 percent of viruses out of 545,034. However it wasn’t that great at detecting Spyware and Ad-ware only detecting 90.95 percent.  In my opinion not many AV programs are.  Two programs I recommend for spyware and adware are Spyware Doctor Starter Edition, and Malware Bytes Anti Malware, Both are Free and Deathly effective.

Overall, Microsoft Security Essentials did better than I expected, However I’m not ready to switch from my current AV which is Avira Free Edition. However If you are a corporation or small business it could be very cost effective since most AV Free editions cannot be used for businesses.

Meebo allows you to sign onto your instant messenger without downloading any software. It allows you to IM through the web page. With support for AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk, Myspace, Facebook, ICQ, Jabber, and My Yearbook.

You can even create your own Meebo Chat room to embed on your website.

How cool is that. No more need to download software on your already heavily taxed computer. Just run it through the web browser.

I had never heard of Meebo until I saw my nephew Chris using it on his computer.

Irfanview – Everyday photo viewer, croper, resizer, minimal editor, . I use this program on a daily basis.

Gadwin Printscreen – Basic Screet Shot Capture. Comparable to SnagIt. Needs a bit of pre configuration before use though. Good for making Image Tutorials.

Foto Flexer – Cool online photo editor. Lots of effects, Motivational Posters are probably my favorite.

Audacity- Powerful Audio Editor

Cam Studio- Basic Video Screen Capture tool.

Jashaka -Video and Audio editor with powerful features.Works on Windows, Linux and Mac. Comes with Jah Video Player is claimed to be able to play any audio or video format.

Do you have private conversations on yahoo messenger. Did you know anybody with access to your computer can read them without having your password?

All of your IM logs are stored in a yahoo messenger Dat file that is normally unreadable. There is a new freeware program called Yahoo Messenger Archive Decoder that will allow a person to read the IM logs without being online and without having your password. It even lets you export the logs as word documents. This provides a security until Yahoo encrypts their Instant Messenger Files.

Edit PDF’s with Open Office thanks to a new Plugin called The Sun PDF Import Extension.

Currently thier are several online PDF editors but that requires you to upload your PDF to a 3rd party site which is a privacy concern for most.

The other alternative is to actually spend lots of money on Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Clearly the plugin from Open Office is the best choice.  Hopefully microsoft office will soon have the ability to edit and convert PDF’s.

Forget torrenting and limewire. You can download music straight from You tube with Youtube to MP3 Converter. It’s pretty simple to use just copy and paste the youtube link into the program and download. You can even copy and paste multiple links in. I would sugest changing the output quality to high quality.

Freeware program Unknown Devices makes discovering the name of your hardware a blast.

No need to open the case and look for the model number on the device. Dead Simple and Fast.
